Product Highlights

Updated for 2009! Boasting an innovative, asymmetrical layout, a light packed weight and a packed size of 19 x 6, the Mountain Hardwear Sprite 1 offers the efficient performance that solo backpackers crave. Though not freestanding, once pitched, the Sprite 1 is rugged enough for 3-season usage in a variety of conditions.

Clip construction makes it easy to connect the fabric body of the Sprite 1 to twin lightweight Atlas 7001 aluminum poles. Mountain Hardwear further ensures performance with its Guaranteed Watertight Construction. The fully-taped seams and welded construction of each model of Mountain Hardwear tent are tested in a custom-made "rain room" which subjects the tent to 1200 inches of wind-driven rain over the course of 24 hours.

Designed specifically for one sleeper, the Sprite 1 offers a streamlined 17.5 square feet of interior space. A unique layout provides dedicated space within the interior of the tent body for storing gear without diminishing sleeping space. A vestibule lends an additional 5 square feet of sheltered space for storing gear or wet, muddy boots. A large, zippered door makes it easy to get in and out of the Sprite 1.

Made almost entirely of Nylon knit mesh, the body of the Sprite 1 offers maximum ventilation, combating the build-up of condensation. An integrated rainfly window provides a view to the outside and increases livability, especially on dreary days when you're forced to spend the day inside your tent. Reflective highlights and guy out loops provide visibility for those times when you need to set up after dark.

The extensive use of lightweight materials in the tent body, floor, fly, poles and buckles maintains a 2 pound 15 ounce trail weight. For faster, lighter travel in warm weather conditions, you can attach the compatible, custom-fit footprint (sold separately) to the tent fly, eliminating the tent body, and reducing the packed weight of the Sprite 1 to under 2.5 pounds.

Likes: Tent is exactly what it's advertised to be: lightweight, well ventilated, room enough for one. Kept me dry in a thunderstorm. Vestibule is big enough to keep a 30 pound dog dry and almost happy. Window in the rain fly is a nice feature but it's mostly so other people can see in - too high to see anything outside but the treetops.

Dislikes: Can't sit up in it, and it's too well ventilated (i.e. I froze all night). As mentioned above, this is what it's advertised to be, so this is more of a complaint for the product category than the product itself. I don't think the one pound it saves over a good 2-man backpacking tent is worth it.
