Product Highlights
Updated for 2010! A classic Lowe Alpine backpack, the TFX Appalachian 65:85 continues to offer an excellent balance of performance and affordability but, thanks to a strategic redesign, now checks in at a lighter trail weight. Ideal for extended backpacking trips, the TFX Appalachian 65:85 pack has a 5500 cubic inch storage capacity.
The TFX 8 back system found on the TFX Appalachian 65:85 provides a customized comfortable fit and broad range of adjustability (16”-23”) for backpackers of varying torso lengths. Providing maximum balance, the Torso Motion frame system allows the hipbelt to react relative to your spine while the internal frame of the TFX Appalachian 65:85 flexes and rotates with your torso. Enhancing comfort, high-performance “rebound” foam on the inside of the lumbar pad responds to the natural curve of your lower back. Twin aluminum stays provide rigid strength for loads of up to 65 pounds. Load-lifter straps and a sliding sternum strap conveniently adjust, allowing you to make micro adjustments while on the move. In addition, Lowe Alpine's trademarked Noggin Notch provides a contoured space for head movement, combating the stiff, sore neck often associated with a long day on the trail.
The interior of the packbag is reached through a top-loading access point. An additional lower compartment with front entry is designed to stow sleeping bags. A zippered divider between the two compartments allows for organization of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the TFX Appalachian 65:85 to a single, large compartment. Side bellows pockets provide additional places to store gear. The extendible lid with internal and external zippered pockets provides further storage and can be detached entirely when not needed. An extendible spindrift collar expands the capacity of the TFX Appalachian 65:85 to its full 5500 cubic inches.
Ice axe loops, twin trekking pole attachment cords and an elastic front attachment system add to the TFX Appalachian 65:85's versatility in the backcountry. Side pockets are designed for easy on-trail access to water bottles and a lined internal pocket and an integrated drinking tube exit make the TFX Appalachian 65:85 hydration system (sold separately) compatible. A removable rain cover offers extra protection against the elements and stows efficiently into a dedicated pocket in the pack’s lid. Providing valuable assistance in emergency situations, the buckle on the sternum strap doubles as a whistle and an informative SOS panel is imprinted on the underside of the lid.
The Lowe Alpine TFX Appalachian 65:85 is available in your choice of color options.
