Product Highlights

Based on the simple, classic design of Dick Kelty's original pack, the rugged and reliable Kelty Trekker external frame pack remains a trail favorite. Equipped with plenty of pockets and valuable features, the Trekker makes a great backcountry companion.

The Trekker's rigid aluminum frame provides excellent stability and support. An external frame pack is a great option if you're carrying heavy loads over well-maintained trails and even terrain. However, it is important to remember that the rigidity of an external frame can hamper flexibility for off-trail scrambling.

A fully adjustable suspension system can be quickly and easily adjusted to comfortably fit varying torso lengths. The Small/Medium (64 liters/3900 cubic inch) size will accommodate torsos ranging from 14"-20" while the Medium/Large (65 liters/3950 cu in) fits 16"-22" torsos. The Trekker's ventilated backpanel, adjustable dual-density waistbelt and padded shoulder straps work together to further enhance fit while belt stabilizer straps help to transfer weight onto the hips. The Trekker's adjustable sternum strap fine tunes the positioning of the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms.

Equipped with many zippered pockets, the Trekker allows you to separate and organize gear while providing quick and easy access to whatever you might need while on the trail. An integrated spindrift collar on the top-loading main packbag enables you to carry even more gear and secure your pack's contents. An internal "hold-open" bar keeps the packbag open, making it easier to pack your gear.

Other features found on the Trekker include an enclosed sleeping bag compartment, a lid pocket, zippered side pockets, a mesh water bottle pocket, a daisy chain attachment system, lash points and an ice-axe loop. A lined internal sleeve makes the Trekker hydration compatible.

The Kelty Trekker is available in your choice of sizes.

Likes: pack has plenty of pockets for storage and a lot of space for all the gear.Recently went on a camping trip and was able to pack sleep apnea machine and portable battery along with all the other gear and the pack was still comfortable to carry.

Dislikes: would like to know what the metal bars inside pack are for other than that no complaints

  • Don M. Exton PA

Likes: The Kelty Trekker 65 is simply the best made external frame backpack available, and the price is right too. It easily adjusts for a secure and correct fit, especially for those of us who have broad shoulders and a thick torso. There's plenty of storage space both inside the pack and outside on the frame. The hip support is superb for carrying that extra load on long treks. Overall, this is a well designed and constructed unit that weighs just under 5 pounds. Unless you need an internal frame for off trail scrambling or technical climbing this is the pack for you. See you on the PCT.

    Dislikes: no dislikes
