The Kelty Trail Dome 4 is a versatile and inexpensive 4-person tent.
At only 8 lb. 3 oz. packaged weight, and 7 lb. 9 oz. minimum weight, the Kelty Trail Dome 4 can be used for backpacking, and still works well for family and car camping.
Because the Trail Dome 4 is a free-standing tent, the tent does not need to be staked down before it's set up. This allows you to move the tent around on your site before staking it down in the ideal location.
The Trail Dome 4 tent is Kelty's most ventilated tent. The side wall vents, mesh ceiling and open front fly provide great air flow through the tent to prevent condensation build up on the inside of the tent body.
The Trail Dome's color coded clip construction makes this tent a cinch to set up, even in limited light or foul weather.
The Kelty Trail Dome 4 comes with DAC DA17 poles. DA17 prebent poles are made of a proprietary aluminum alloy designed by DAC specifically for tents. By using this alloy, they get a large diameter pole with high stiffness, strength and durability at a cost only a little above inexpensive fiberglass poles.
The Kelty Arcedge construction lifts the floor seams up off the ground, eliminating these seams as a potential source of leaks. Kelty has also employed their watertight wall technology on the Trail Dome 4 with seams shingled downward to shed water on all exposed walls. Exposed windows and doors have wide flaps covering the edges so they can't leak at the zipper even in high winds.
The downside of the Trail Dome series is the lack of a vestibule. Without a vestibule, you'll need to bring your gear inside, or cover your pack with a pack cover during wet weather.

Likes: My son and I purchased this tent to use on Cub Scout campouts at semi-improved sites. The tent was easy for us to set up and take down. It provided good protection from heavy dew and damp ground (2-3 inches of rain 36 hours before camping) and from cool (for south Texas) nights (45 degF). No condensation inside of the tent and no creepy-crawlies or flying visitors. The aluminum poles (main supports) assembled easily and provided more than adequate support for the tent.
Dislikes: Buy "real" tent stakes to use instead of the "bent nail" stakes that are included (this is a general comment, not just a criticism of this tent).

Likes: Great design with plenty of space. Light enoungh for our annual trip to Havasupai in the Grand Canyon (10 Mile Hike)and strong enough for 45 mph winds at Hole in the Wall campground in Mojave. Great for the backyard or backpacking.
Dislikes: Nothing. If your gonna buy a footprint, dont buy it from Kelty. Instead, buy a high quality thin tarp. You can customize it and it'll last longer, cheaper too.

Likes: Ease of set up.
Dislikes: I fear that plastic parts holding spars may break.
