Product Highlights

Updated for 2009! A long-time trail favorite, the versatile Kelty Redwing 3100 is big enough for a day-and-a-half of backcountry hiking and stream-lined enough for use as an around-town daypack. With an array of color offerings, the Redwing 3100 is a functional and fashionable do-it-all pack.

A single aluminum stay and an HDPE framesheet equip the Redwing 3100 with lightweight, reliable support. A contoured, padded waistbelt offers comfortable load support. Kelty's patented Scherer Cinch uses a pulley-like system to double the tightening force on the waistbelt, ensuring that the brunt of the pack's weight rests on your hips. When you aren’t carrying heavy loads and don’t need the additional support, you can remove the waistbelt entirely and reduce the weight of the pack.

Anatomically curved and padded shoulder straps further enhance fit. Load lifter straps relieve stress on your shoulders and an adjustable sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders. The Redwing 3100 is designed to comfortably fit torsos ranging from 18.5"-21" in length. Side compression straps help you to cinch and secure the contents of the Redwing 3100 for optimal balance and load distribution.

The large main packbag of the Redwing 3100 offers convenient access through a large, zippered front entry. An additional large pocket located on the front panel provides internal organizational options. Additional features include zippered side pockets, a stash pocket, an ice-axe loop, a carry handle, a daisy-chain attachment system and dual mesh water bottle pockets. A lined interior pocket and built-in tube exit make the Redwing 3100 hydration compatible.

The Kelty Redwing 3100 is available in your choice of Black, Russet, Woods Green or Khaki color options.

Likes: Great product for the full day or overnight hike. Holds it all and easy access to everything. Has a versitality if you need it for multiday hikes. Good lash points for whatever you need. I have even used it for travel as a carryon. Great pack just what I wanted

Dislikes: Liked it all, well worth it for the day hike plus.

Likes: Very roomy; enough space to carry everything for a serious day hike where you need extra clothing, rain gear, lots of snacks/food, maps, water purification, headlamp/flashlight, etc. Like that it is made to carry a hydration bladder. Lots of pockets and outside tie-downs to accommodate many different hiking needs.

Dislikes: It's all good!

Likes: It's roomy, great size for carry-on, and was my main bag for a 2-week trip to Mexico - the other being a fanny pack. It comes in different lengths; I have a long torso and most packs are too short. The pockets are generally very well thought out. I was sold on the product by the 2008 version, but the 2009 managed to improve.

Dislikes: The open pockets on the sides work perfectly for water bottles, except they are not really deep enough. My thermos tends to fall out (even with the strap) when I set the pack down.

Likes: I bought the Redwing 3100 for a hike into the Grand Canyon. I liked the comfort and design of the pack. It fit me well and could be adjusted easily. We stayed at the bottom of the canyon for 2 nights. On the 8 hour hike back out I was grateful for my choice of pack as it never gave me any problems.

Dislikes: My only issue with the design is that there is no hanger at the top for my water bladder. Prior to the hike I cut a piece of nylon rope and created a 2 inch loop and connected it to the handle strap and fed it into the pack where the hose comes out. I hung the bladder from this. That solved the problem of keeping a 100 liter water bladder in maximum vertical position.

Likes: This pack is great! Lots of space for a dayhike, with enough extra space if you wanted to pull an overnight as well. Many pockets and loops to stash everything you need! I have a larger Kelty pack as well, also excellent, but I prefer the Redwing.

Dislikes: No complaints/cons

Likes: A terrific pack. Perfect for what I need it for. I do plenty of traveling and this is the perfect size for being on the road for long stretches. It's a big pack but not an unwieldy huge pack...which is great for me. It's very well made and built like a brickhouse which is the norm for Kelty packs. Has great organization ability too. I recommend it.

Dislikes: There is not a thing I don't like about it.
