Product Highlights

A trusted backcountry workhorse, the voluminous Kelty Red Cloud 6650 is an excellent balance of performance, durability and affordability. Heavy-hauling load capability, convenient access points and an array of features combine to equip the Red Cloud 6650 for extended backpacking trips.

Equipped with an adjustable Cloudlock II suspension system, the Red Cloud 6650 relies on twin lightweight aluminum stays, a horizontal anti-barreling stay and an HDPE framesheet for reliable support. This design provides stability and load-bearing strength while avoiding the unwieldy rigidity of external frame packs. A contoured, dual-density waistbelt offers comfortable load support. Kelty's patented Scherer Cinch uses a pulley-like system to double the tightening force on the waistbelt, ensuring that the brunt of the pack's weight rests on your hips.

The Red Cloud 6650's anatomically curved and padded shoulder straps can be quickly and easily adjusted to accommodate torso lengths ranging from 16" to 22". Load lifter straps relieve stress on your shoulders and an adjustable sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders. Side compression straps secure the contents of the Red Cloud 6650 for optimal balance and load distribution. An integrated spindrift collar and height-adjustable top lid allow you to carry even more gear and further aid in securing the Red Cloud 6650’s contents.

The pack body of the Red Cloud 6650 consists of a large top-loading main compartment and a lower compartment that is designed to accommodate backpacking-style sleeping bags. A zippered front panel offers additional quick access to your gear from the front of the pack. The lid of the Red Cloud 6650 can be removed entirely for use as a lumbar pack. A large pocket located on the front panel provides internal organizational options.

Additional features include zippered side pockets, a daisy-chain attachment system, a carry handle, ice-axe loops and dual mesh water bottle pockets. A lined interior pocket and built-in tube exit make the Red Cloud 6650 hydration compatible.

The Kelty Red Cloud 6650 is available in a Blood Red/Gray color scheme.

Likes: This pack certainly has tons of room, and for the price, you can't beat that. The fit is good for a tall man and it is pretty comfortable.

Dislikes: This is a nuts and bolts back that gets the job done, but at the expense of weight and features.

Likes: This thing is huge!! I have room for everything I could possibly need and more. Excellent through-pockets for longer items like fishing pole or tent poles. I'm a tall guy (6'4") and the adjustments were easy for me to fine tune the pack. Great construction also, can really withstand the trails. Great price!!

Dislikes: NA

Likes: Great Huge Pack. There were some compartments that I didn't even use because I had so much room. 3 day hike went great.

Dislikes: Its so big that you could fill it up too full and take much more than actually needed.

Review Date: 7/6/2010

Likes: Great backpack. Easy to adjust to your body. Comfortable. Love the dual entry as well as the detachable day pack on top. Seems durable enough to last me for quite a few backpacking trips! Really like all the pockets (like on the hip straps). I was able to fit all my gear and clothes for a four day backpack trip with even a little room to spare! Shopped this out for a while and am really happy with my choice!

Dislikes: Great find for the price!

Review Date: 3/15/2010

Likes: I'm a big man (6'5" 287#) This pack fits me like a glove. I used this pack on my last trip to Honduras and I was able to pack enough clothes for a week long mission trip and with all the compression straps I was able to use this as a carry-on bag! The pack is very well built, allows for great adjustment, and is comfortable with 50# of gear. The easy torso adjustment allows this pack to fit almost anyone. My wife is 5'2" 120# and I can adjust the pack to fit her. If you are are a big guy or you need to carry a big load this pack is for you.

Dislikes: If I had to find something to complain about it would be that the fanny pack, which is the top of the pack, does not have a quick release buckle. It still only takes about 30 seconds to take it off or put it back.

Review Date: 12/30/2009

Likes: So far the product seems really durable. I was able to fit all my normal backing gear and such in it plus my tent. The back feels comfortable on my back as well loaded.

Dislikes: The only thing i didnt like is that im use to strapping a a seat of sorts to the face of my pack, this looks like it might be a little harder. But taking a step back its really nothing bad, its just the only thing i could think of that i didnt like.
