Product Highlights

A "mansion-style" offering for 3-season camping, the Kelty Parthenon 8 is incredibly roomy and full of organizational features. The Parthenon 8 can even be partitioned into two separate rooms, each large enough to accommodate a queen-sized airbed (sold separately).

DAC aluminum poles provide the Parthenon 8 with freestanding structure and elbow room inside the tent. Color-coded clip and sleeve construction aid in ease of set up by making it easy to identify which pole goes where. The freestanding design allows you to pitch the Parthenon 8 and then move it around your campsite to find the optimum position, eliminating an uncomfortable night's sleep over an exposed root or rock. Stakes are included to secure the tent in place.

The Parthenon 8 provides a cavernous 143 square feet of interior space. Over 6 feet of interior peak height allows even taller campers to enjoy a stoop-free shelter. A removable divider wall grants the Parthenon 8 versatility for use as a single room or as two private rooms. Closeable panels inside the Parthenon 8 add privacy and weather protection when needed and, when opened to expose mesh sidewalls, enhance cross-ventilation in warm weather. The large front vestibule offers nearly 29 square feet of external storage space. An integrated organizer wall and gear loft loops further help to maximize available floor space by providing places to stow and hang gear.

Dual doors provide access options and are especially convenient when the Parthenon 8 is being used in its two room configuration. For ease of use, the vestibule also has two independent entryways. These doors can be rolled open on warmer days to enhance cross ventilation.

Extensive mesh on the sidewalls and ceiling of the tent body provides great airflow and helps to prevent condensation build-up on the interior of the Parthenon 8. The PU-coated polyester-taffeta rainfly provides excellent weather and UV protection. Integrated fly vents and awning-style sidewall coverage improve airflow. Kelty's patented ArcEdge floor construction lifts the taped seams up off the ground, eliminating potential for leaks.

An optional footprint (sold separately) further protects the Kelty Parthenon 8 against ground water, roots and rocks.

Likes: My family does a lot of car camping. We go out pretty much every two weeks and camp somewhere, and because of that we go through tents quickly - like every 2 years. I always buy high quality tents. This tent is no exception - it is high quality and weatherproof. Because of the size of the tent and angle of the walls, this tent definitely must be staked and guyed out as well as possible - it catches the wind from every angle. One it is well staked the wind isn't much of a problem.

Dislikes: Building the Parthenon 8 the first time is a bit confusing. The steel poles are a bit awkward and the instructional graphics are not very good.

The stakes that come with the tent are better than a cheap tent, but lower quality than what one should expect from Kelty. I recommend getting the MSR Groundhog stakes to go with this tent.

Likes: the design and size of this tent is better than any tent out there for 10 people. You get the most out of your square footage with this style. It is extremely easy to set up, even by one person. It took me 10 minutes from start to finish, including the fly.

Dislikes: The corner seams that the poles attach into stretched. You could see the stitching was being strained. Both Back Country Edge and Kelty immediately acknowledged this defect and set about replacing my tent with a new one. Customer service has been great.

Likes: I've been looking for a family tent, a tent to accommodate 2 adults and 3 kids plus all our gear. This tent is huge, and seems to be very well made. I was able to assemble the tent by myself. Overall, I would recommend this tent to anyone looking for a good, quality family tent.

Dislikes: Two things that could be improved, and they are minor, is the room divider and the fact that the back window and door windows have no flap – you must have the fly on for privacy.
