Product Highlights
Updated for 2010! The combination of reliable performance and an affordable price continue to make the classic Kelty Light Year Down 20 Degree sleeping bag a trail favorite. Its mummy cut, light packed weight and compressibility are ideal for 3-season backpacking.
In an effort to standardize temperature ratings and properly inform consumers, European Norm (EN) testing uses a thermal mannequin to determine the performance of a sleeping bag in a range of temperatures. The Comfort rating is meant to reflect the temperature at which an average adult woman (132 lbs) can enjoy a comfortable night of sleep and a Lower Limit rating is meant to show the temperature at which an average adult male (176 lbs) can enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep. A third rating, Extreme, is meant only to show the survival rating for a “standard” woman and is not advisable for use in making buying decisions for general use. NOTE: The testing assumes that the user of the sleeping bag will be using a sleeping pad of 1” thickness and wearing long underwear, a hat and socks. Kelty bases its assigned temperature ratings based on the EN Lower Limit and the assumption that you will be utilizing both a sleeping pad and a tent.
The Light Year Down 20 Degree sleeping bag is insulated with 650-fill goose down. Down has a soft, comfortable feel and continues to be the insulation with the best warmth-to-weight ratio. The feathers and fibers hold body heat and are very easily compressed, so the bag takes up less space in your pack. NOTE: The one downfall to this insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet.
Box-baffle construction with chevron stitching eliminates cold spots, keeping outside air from reaching the inside of the Light Year Down 20 Degree. A contoured hood with an insulated baffle, an insulated top baffle collar and a draft tube behind the hip-length zipper combine to further insulate against the cold. In balmier weather, an integrated, zippered foot vent allows for added ventilation. A polyester microfiber liner provides internal comfort.
Other features found on the Light Year Down 20 Degree bag include internal liner loops, external snap loops that allow the bag itself to be used as a liner, sleeping pad security loops and hanging loops for convenient storage.
The Kelty Light Year Down 20 Degree sleeping bag is available in Reg (fits up to 6'0") and Long (up to 6'6") lengths. An ultra-light compression stuff sack and storage sack are included.
