Product Highlights

Priced to appeal to cost-conscious backpackers and campers, the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 provides excellent value and performance for 3-season use. Foregoing all of the bells and whistles of higher-priced tents, the Grand Mesa 2 offers solid construction and functional design at an affordable price.

Weighing 4 lb., 10 oz., the Grand Mesa 2 provides 29 sq. ft. of interior space. A vestibule offers 6 sq. ft. of additional exterior space for stowing gear and muddy boots. The combination of sidewall vents and mesh fabric used on the tent body provides excellent ventilation for combating condensation build-up and keeping you cool during warm weather.

The Grand Mesa 2 uses color coded clip construction that eliminates the hassle of feeding poles through cumbersome tent sleeves. Just slide the shock-corded pole sections together and attach the clips. The freestanding design of the Grand Mesa 2 allows you to pitch the tent and then move it around your campsite to find the optimum position, eliminating an uncomfortable night's sleep over an exposed root or rock.

The PU polyester-taffeta rainfly and taped seams of the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 protect the interior of the tent from wind and rain.

Likes: this was my first tent and i used it on a backpacking trip to the Catskills...It was pretty light and considering that I hvae no experience in setting up a tent, this was surprisingly easy to do so. There was no rain or wind, so i cant tell you how good it will perform in those conditions, but I would assume it would have done well. I am 6'2 and i managed pretty comfortably inside. Tere was space for my backpack as well at my feet. I dont think this is a two person tent, though if your partner is really close to you, you can give it a try for sure... :)

Dislikes: nothing really...

Likes: Very easy to set up.

Dislikes: It could use some attachments to allow the user to tie some lines to dry clothes (for example).
Novice comment: the tent came with 4 lines but the tent and rain fly have 8 spots/places where those lines could go. The accompanying user's guide (or company's online site) could have explained what goes where.

Likes: Great "one plus" tent for me, my gear, and my dog. Walls are high enough to keep the tent relatively draft free. Vestibule at the end provides more usable space than a side vestibule would. Love the clips for the rain fly. Easy to assemble and take down. Light weight and compact.

Dislikes: For some reason the screening on the door angles much farther down than the rest of the tent, creating a draft. I'm very sensitive to wind so this makes it impossible to sleep with my head at this end.

Likes: Great backpacking tent, used it this past weekend on a two night outing . Plenty of room, if your solo. Easy set up and light weight, a well made tent..

Dislikes:
So far so good .

Review Date: 4/4/2009

Likes: Much larger than other 2-person backpacking tents. Perfect for a 1-person trip if you like to keep your gear inside with you. Only for 2-person if you regularly share a bed with the other party :) No guide lines or stakes required, on nice weather leave rain-fly behind for even more compact experience.

Dislikes: Without the ground cover, tent bottom easily wet and cold.

Likes: This is a very lightweight tent for the room it has. It is great for hiking and camping and at a great price too.

Dislikes: not a thing.

Review Date: 3/4/2009

Likes: Great price, easy to assemble, light weight but enough space for 2 people.

Dislikes: The fly is too hight to be tied on the side, so i add some strings which are not included... We did not use it in the rain yet so can't say about waterproof....

Review Date: 2/7/2009

Likes: Easy to set up, light, a great value for the price. Very roomy for one, slightly cramped for two. Unable to comment on it's performance in rain.

Dislikes: Even though I didn't have a problem setting up the tent, the instructions are very vague and seems like it was printed for an older model or similar tent (Instructions tell you to slide the poles through pole sleeves, but this tent uses clips only and does not have pole sleeves.) Also, there are nothing in the instructions on how to use the guylines.

Review Date: 12/29/2008

Likes: Good backpacking tent - light carry weight and easy set-up. compares favorably with similar pricier "brands." those of you familiar with the Kelty Sage ( no longer made or available) will like this one.

Dislikes: Might have been nice to have a gear loft inside.

Likes: Pretty color.

Dislikes: Straps dug into me, both arms and waist. More pockets on the outside would be nice.

Review Date: 11/18/2008

Likes: WOW!!!! I ordered this to replace my VERY OLD tent that is no longer made. I lost 4lbs. of weight, and gained a much nicer tent. Setup took about 3 minutes, including putting the fly on. Lots of room inside for people and gear. I especially like having the door on the "end" vs. the "side". The extra space of the vestibule is very nice also.

Dislikes: If you are going to use this for 2 people, make sure your partner is somebody you want to be very close with. It is really good for 1 person and a lot of gear.
