Borrowing the time-tested construction, features, comfort and value of Kelty's ever-popular Red Cloud series, the new Kelty Coyote 4900 offers excellent performance and pack access in a more compact, streamlined design.

Equipped with an adjustable suspension system, the Coyote 4900 backpanel relies on twin lightweight alulminum stays and an HDPE frame sheet for vertical support. This design provides stability and load-bearing strength while avoiding the unwieldy rigidity of external frame packs. A 2-layer padded and contoured waistbelt is also reinforced with plastic inserts for comfortable load support. Kelty's patented Scherer Cinch uses a pulley-like system to double the tightening force on the waistbelt, ensuring that the brunt of the pack's weight rests on your hips.

The Coyote 4900's anatomically curved and padded shoulder straps can be adjusted vertically to accommodate torso lengths ranging from 16" to 22". Load lifter straps lift weight up and off of your shoulders and the Coyote 4900's adjustable height sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders. Side compression straps and an integrated spindrift collar help you to cinch and secure the contents of the Coyote 4900 for optimal balance and load distribution.

The pack body of the Coyote 4900 consists of a single, large top-accessed compartment. A zippered front panel offers additional quick access to your gear from the front of the pack. The lid of the Coyote 4900 can be removed for use as a fanny pack. A large pocket located on the front panel provides internal organizational options. Additional features include an internal load pocket, zippered side pockets, a zippered stash pocket, a fleece-lined optics pocket, daisy-chain gear attachment and dual mesh water bottle pockets. A lined interior pocket and built-in tube exit make the Coyote 4900 hydration compatible.

Likes: Decent size and compartmentation and the fit was also very comfortable.

Dislikes: I returned the bag because the side compartments did not have a positive closure. The tops of the compartments simply laid over a partially zipped pocket. This presents the possibility to lose gear in low light conditions.

Likes: Great Beginner Pack. Enough room for an extended trip. It fits me and I'm only 5'7. Great for a high schooler.

Dislikes: I enjoy everything about this pack.

Likes: High quality construction and Kelty backs their products with life time warranty. Pocket arrangement is very logical. Pack is comfortable to wear/great waist belt. Right pack size for teenager.

Dislikes: Pack lacks hole for water bladder.
