Product Highlights
No matter where you want to go or how much you plan to pack, the largest member of Gregory's high-end Adventure Series, the Whitney, is up to the task. Built of the sturdiest materials and incorporating an innovative suspension system designed to adjust and conform to the dimensions of your back and torso, the Whitney is rugged enough for the most extreme back country adventure, comfortable even while carrying loads of 65+ lbs. on lengthy hikes and durable enough to withstand the test of time. The Whitney enables you to venture deep into the back country and spend several days getting and staying there. The standard capacity of the medium-sized Whitney is 5450 cubic inches. The available space of the Whitney increases with the use of an extendible integrated spindrift collar. Having spent numerous years and countless miles out on the trail, the designers at Gregory are well aware of the problems that arise from ill-fitting backpacks. Unwilling to compromise comfort or load-carrying capability, Gregory's commitment to providing the perfect fit is evident in the technology used in their harness and suspension systems. Far superior to less flexible designs, the frame of the Whitney consists of a two-piece "floating" framesheet connected to two aluminum stays at a V-angle that achieves supportive stiffness while providing torsional flex so the pack mirrors the shape of your body as it moves. The Whitney's shoulder harness connects to the frame of the pack via rotating Auto-Cant attachment points, adjusting automatically to the contours of your neck and shoulders and eliminating the pinching and chafing caused by the imperfect fit of fixed or less adjustable harnesses. Even Gregory's waistbelts are built for high-performance, employing an Adjust-A-Cant design that allows you to choose which of three possible hip-to-waist angles best fits your body. Unlike the sewn-in waistbelt design found in most backpacks, the Whitney's waistbelt is bolted securely to the stays and framesheet, providing optimal weight distribution and helping to maintain comfort regardless of the weight of your load. The Flo-Form II padding of the shoulder harness and waistbelt provides cushioning and prevents chafing. A layer of soft foam covered in smooth, abrasion-resistant fabric encases denser layers of foam which provide stability and support. A chimney ventilation channel between the padded, breathable back panel and the body of the pack allows air to circulate and reduces the sweat factor often associated with carrying a heavy load. A sternum strap and load-lifter straps further enhance the fit of the Whitney and ensure the stability of your load, allowing convenient adjustment while on the trail. Traditionally, pack body access is an issue in backpacks built to carry heavy loads and large amounts of gear. This is not the case with the Whitney, as numerous pockets and points of entry provide pack access to the item you need without forcing you to pull out all of the contents of your pack to find it. Gregory has incorporated top, front and side access, as well as a separate zippered entry to the lower sleeping bag compartment. A lashed divider separates this lower compartment from the top and front loading main compartment, allowing for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unhook the divider and convert the Whitney to a single, large compartment. Large "barn door" side pockets offer additional storage space and zippered mesh dividers in each pocket allow full access to the main pack body. The extendible lid of the Whitney includes a pocket with a weather-resistant zipper for stowing gear and can be detached from the pack body for use as a fanny pack. An additional zippered front pocket with an internal mesh pocket provides yet another place to house gear and clothes. The Whitney offers a number of other features, including a canted water bottle holder, an elastic mesh side pocket, a daisy chain gear attachment, gear loops, and side and lower panel compression straps. An integrated sleeve and exit port make the Whitney hydration compatible. Made of a durable 210D nylon fabric and further protected by a rugged weather-resistant Shelter-Rite tarpaulin bottom, the Whitney is available in Midnight Blue or Lichen Green color options. The Whitney is available in XS, S, M or L size options.
