Product Highlights

Boasting a ventilated, high-performance suspension system, torso length adjustability and a long list of features, the Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 is well-equipped for weekend and multi-day backpacking trips.

Deuter introduced its Aircomfort back and suspension system in 1985 and has been fine-tuning and improving upon it ever since. The Futura Vario 50+10 combines the Aircomfort back system with Deuter's Vari-Quick harness system. A strongly-woven strap "ladder", the Vari-Quick harness system allows you to select the desired position for optimal comfort and load distribution. The Aircomfort back system, consisting of a lightweight PE frame sheet and preformed aluminum stays, provides stability and flexibility, adding tension to a mesh back panel. Moist air can freely escape through the space created between the pack body and your back, preventing heat build up. Soft, breathable fabrics and ventilated pads in the back, shoulder straps and hipbelt further help to keep you cool and comfortable on the trail. Load-lifter straps, and shoulder and lumbar padding further aid in the effective distribution of weight throughout the pack. Side compression straps enable you to reduce and expand the size of the pack body as needed, further securing contents and ensuring stabilization of the load.

A zippered divider between the Futura Vario 50+10's main compartment and front entry sleeping bag compartment allows for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the Futura Vario 50+10 to a single, large compartment. The main compartment has top loading access and in addition, a large, U-shaped front zipper enables you to quickly put hands on gear and or clothes without having to dump out the entire contents of your pack. An integrated, extendible spindrift collar protects the interior of the packbag and increases the pack's full capacity to 3650 cubic inches.

A large front zippered pocket offers additional storage. Side bellows pockets and internal and external zippered pockets on the Futura Vario 50+10's extendible lid provide further storage options.

Other special features of the Futura Vario 50+10 include ice axe/trekking pole loops, top lid attachment rings and an integrated rain cover for protecting your pack against the elements. Two side mesh pockets allow for transportation of water bottles and a lined internal pocket, built-in tube exit point, and tube clip on the shoulder strap make the Futura Vario 50+10 hydration system (sold separately) compatible.

Likes: Very comfortable and stable ride at 35lbs. Even when I was climbing rocks/boulders it never through me off balance. Highly adjustable to make the perfect fit. Access to the bottom of the main pack without going through the top. Great padding on straps.

    Dislikes: No hip belt pockets.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: This pack has a great suspension system and serves well for overnights, weekends or as an light weight Multi day pack. Still a little heavy for ultra light, but if you like all the features of a full pack without sacrificing comfort, it fits the ultralight bill nicely.

    Dislikes: None so far.

  • Matthew P. las vegas NV

Likes: Easy access to items at the bottom is excellent. The back cooling system is top notch. Well built. Great for a 2-3 day pack.

Dislikes: I found the hip belt padding to stop a lot shorter than my other bag, which I'm not sure I like.
