Product Highlights

The Aircontact PRO 70+15 is Deuter’s weight hauling specialist. It boasts an array of features and an innovative suspension system intended to bear heavy loads. A standard capacity of 4270 cubic inches, increasing to 5185 cubic inches with the use of an extendible spindrift collar, equips the Aircontact PRO 70+15 for multi-day and extended-length backpacking trips.

Twin anatomically shaped aluminum stays form a supportive "V" that effectively transfers weight to your hips. Breathable, hollow chamber foam grants comfort, further stability and ventilation. Further enhancing fit, Deuter's VariFit shoulder harness system adjusts easily to accommodate a broad range of torso lengths (14"-22"). Adjustability in the padded shoulder straps and pivoting Variflex hipbelt aids in both comfort and fit. In addition, a concave molding at the top of the backpanel works in conjunction with the height-adjustable lid to provide a contoured space for head movement, combating the stiff, sore neck often associated with a long day on the trail.

A zippered divider between the Aircontact PRO 70+15's main compartment and lower sleeping bag compartment allows for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the pack to a single, large compartment. The top-loading main compartment has a lid that can be removed entirely to double as a fully-functional, ultra-lightweight summit pack. An expandable internal collar on the Aircontact Pro 70+15’s packbag cinches down tightly when you’re traveling light but can extend beneath the lid to expand capacity when needed. In addition to the top access, a large, U-shaped front zipper enables you to quickly put hands on gear and or clothes without having to dump out the entire contents of the pack. A large zippered front pocket offers additional storage. Side bellows pockets offer plenty of capacity and even have drinking tube pass-throughs for carrying hydration systems (sold separately). An interior pocket, a zippered lid pocket, elastic side pockets and a small zippered hipbelt pocket provide further places to store and organize gear.

Other special features of the Aircontact PRO 70+15 backpack include ice axe loops, top lid attachment rings, dual front daisy chain attachment systems, an SOS instruction panel and an integrated rain cover for protecting your pack against the elements. A lined hydration sleeve in the main compartment and built-in tube exit points further enhance the backcountry functionality of the pack.

Likes: Used this bag to haul a much heavier than usual load for a one nighter at the Red River Gorge in KY (21-Nov-2014) just to test out the pack and get adjusted for longer multi-day trips this coming spring. I really like the side pockets and the lower separate sleeping bag compartment (you can open or close this compartment). With some minor adjustments for first time use, the pack fit exactly as it should without riding down my hips. Good large pack that can handle a large load. I also like how the pack isn't very thick (distance from your back to the outside of the pack) but goes up higher. This doesn't let the weight drift to far from your back or center of gravity.Good quality overall pack

Dislikes: It's a little heavy, which I expected and was advertised as such, but I think this is necessary for a larger 85L pack such as this. The hip belt is a little larger than I would like, but will take some getting used to. Nothing really bad that would keep me from purchasing this pack again.

Likes: Advertised as ‘the heavyweight haulage specialist’, this pack was just what I was looking for. At over 7 pounds, this isn’t a pack for the ultralight hiker. But if you are like me and have to haul a decent amount of gear, the comfort and durability of the Pro ‘outweigh’ a couple of extra pounds. Getting the weight of your gear transferred comfortably to your hips is key to reducing fatigue and pain. The nicely padded pivoting hip belt allows the weight to be evenly distributed to your hips. Lots of ventilation and open cell padding do allow heat and sweat to escape. Great pack!

Dislikes: Not much, just a couple nit-picks: the royal blue color of the rain cover is a bit out of place with the pack colors and the included instructions are a bit skimpy, it took me a few minutes to figure out the one tricky strap to remove the daypack. FYI - you slide one of the plastic ovals sideways thru the other and it comes off – you don’t have to remove any of the buckle parts.
