Product Highlights

The pocket-sized, ultra-lightweight Black Diamond Orbit lantern utilizes a full 1-Watt LED bulb to provide ounce-counting backpackers with bright, non-glaring illumination. Despite weighing just 3 oz (not including batteries) the Orbit serves as a powerful, reliable light source.

Working in tandem with dual reflectors and a frosted globe, the 1-Watt bulb provides maximum light output without causing glare. An integrated dimming switch allows for quick and easy brightness adjustability. Operated by 4 AAA alkaline batteries (not included), the Orbit offers 24 hours of burn time. The Orbit is also compatible with Black Diamond's NRG2 Rechargeable Battery Kit (sold separately) which cuts down on waste and provides you with a renewable energy source. An integrated battery power indicator lets you know the amount of battery left or the charging status of the NRG2 Rechargeable Battery Kit.

When collapsed, the Orbit is a mere 4 inches in length. At full extension, the Orbit stands at a full height of 5.5 inches, increasing the disbursement of light.

The Black Diamond Orbit lantern is available in your choice of colors.

Colors available: Dark Shadow, Lava, Lime Green, Ultra White

Black Diamond part numbers: BD620704DKSHALL1, BD620704LAVAALL1, BD620704LMGRALL1, BD620704ULWTALL1

Likes: Very nice little light that gives off more than I expected. My kids love that we can hang it easily and read or play games quite comfortably.

  • Gabriel M. Sunnyvale CA

Likes: The brightness and compact size of this unit is great. We used 3 of these on a backpacking trip to yosemite and worked great. The light was very bright that it lit up the tent very well at night time..

Dislikes: When the battery becomes low, the light will turn off if you have it on high, but you can still light it up and keep it on dim to get the remaining battery juice.

  • Gabriel M. Sunnyvale CA

Likes: Great little lantern for your backpacking tent and or a small area to light up. The 45 lumens is plenty bright and very light weight/durable. Easy to use, love the dimming feature, I will be buying another,, light it up and try it out..

Likes: Small unit with an unexpected greatness. Again a recommendation from BackCountry-Dave.

I was shocked to see how bright this little lantern is, easy to use/light weight/ seems to be durable and well made/ 45 lumens is bright for this lantern and will be perfect for you backpacking tent/ and or a small area. Can't wait to take it out on the trail and will be purchasing another before they sell out.

  • . Atlanta GA

Likes: Compact and quite bright! Worked great as a tent lantern and walking around camp. I like that when stored I don't have to worry about accidentally turning it on and depleting your batteries. I have a system for how I pack my products and the small size allows me to slide this in with my tent since that is where I use and store the lantern. Also loved the fun selection of colors, didn't have to settle for blah like so many other camp items!

Dislikes: Would like it even smaller and lighter....always like an extra ounce or two shaved off of any item!

  • . Grand Rapids MI

Likes: The design, size and weight of the product are excellent.

Dislikes: I would like the product to turn off when closed. It stays on and you have to re-open to reach the on/off switch. Would be much easier to close to shut off.

  • Travis R. Knoxville TN

Likes: Simple to use, and very lightweight. Use it all the time whether backpacking or car camping. Easily hangs from the inside roof of the tent. Puts off just the right amount of light for use inside a tent.

    Dislikes: Nothing yet.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: Small, bright for its size, inexpensive, has a rechargeable pack that you can buy separately, one button controls on/off/brightness, collapsible, and it seems pretty durable. Plus it has two half-rings (think 90 degrees of a circle) that are held where you want them by friction, perfect for hanging in a tent. And for those of you with a house full of women, it comes in enough colors to keep at least one of them happy with the $18 bargain you got.

Dislikes: Nothing. I'd buy it again, and probably will.

  • Michael K. Springville UT

Likes: This little lantern is perfect for backpacking. It's lightweight and puts out enough light to see what you need once it's gone dark. It puts out 45 lumens, so it's not going to light up everything around you, but it should give you what you need. If you want more lumens, you'll end up with something heavier. The other thing I like is that it seems fairly durable.

    Dislikes: I haven't found anything I don't like yet.

  • Jeff S. Wolverton MN

Likes: This is a great little lantern. Plenty bright. Lightweight. The dimmer switch is great.

    Dislikes: Nothing at this time.

  • . San Diego CA

Likes: This thing is very cool! I was surprised at how small it was, which is a good thing. I should have looked at the specs. The battery holder for the 4 AAAs is well made. Very light. Nice features like hooks to hang it and variable brightness. Have not used it on an outing yet so can't comment on battery life. Looks like a great product and excellent value.

    Dislikes: Nothing.

  • Phillip R. Erie PA

Likes: This light was perfect for my tent. I was able to read by this light and sort clothing for the next day's bike ride. The dinmming switch is a real plus. We plan to use it as an emergency light for power failures in the home. Liz was especially helpful with the selection of this product.
