Product Highlights

A feature-rich 3-season option for one or two hikers, the Copper Spur UL 2 boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is perfect for ounce-counting backpackers who don't want to skimp entirely on creature comforts.

Stretching a full 90" in length, the interior of the Copper Spur UL 2 is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 3 pounds, 2 ounces, the Copper Spur UL 2 offers ample room for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Two interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Wall Gear Loft (sold separately).

The Copper Spur UL 2's DAC Featherlite NSL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated DAC Twist Clips to make setting up the Copper Spur UL 2 fast, easy and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative H Clip attachment, pulling the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the two vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles.

Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the Copper Spur UL 2's seams are tape-sealed to further protect the tent from the elements.

Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, ten super-light aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding Copper Spur UL 2. If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 7 ounces.

Likes: I already owned the Copper Spur UL3 before deciding to get this 2-person version as well. The Copper Spur is the best-designed lightweight tent that I know - it seems like every detail has been optimized over the years (like the handy pockets in the mesh of the inner tent). I love the dimensions of the tent - it is long enough for my long sleeping bag not to touch either end and it's height allows me to change clothes comfortably. The UL2 sleeps 2, but we usually keep the packs outside under the apses. It's also a great tent for a single person who wants to keep all the gear inside. Very easy to set-up.

Dislikes: Of course, the lightweight construction has its downsides. While the material is very resistant to tearing, it does get punctured quite easily. We got one little hole in the lower side of the inner tent without even noticing how it happened. It was easy to patch up, though. Since the tent floor is made from the same thin material, it is definitely advisable to get the footprint, unless you're always camping on perfect sites.

Likes: Osprey did an awesome job on this pack!! Just came back from a five day trip in the eastern sierras. The whole time the pack road very comfortably. Pack was weighing in at about 40lbs and after the first thirty minutes of the hike I completely forgot I had the pack on. Definitely worth getting if you will be packing less than forty pounds. Also, service from Backcountryedge was terrific. Looking forward to making future purchases from them again soon.

Dislikes: The only issue I had with this pack was the front two zippers. When the pack was loaded down I had to be extra careful when zipping and unzipping. Otherwise the pack was great.
