Product Highlights

Lightweight construction, performance-enhancing flexibility and maximum traction make the adidas Outdoor Men’s Terrex Fast R Mid GTX trail shoe a great option for fast-packing or day hikes. A GORE-TEX performance comfort membrane keeps your feet dry on wet, muddy trails and a supportive, synthetic upper increases durability..

Weighing roughly 14 ounces per pair, the Men’s Terrex Fast R Mid GTX utilizes adidas Outdoor’s Formotion technology throughout the shoe. This innovative design supports the wearer’s muscular system and helps to maintain posture on uneven terrain and rough surfaces. Formotion also improves fit and comfort by combining several different types of fabrics in the upper, helping the shoe move with your foot better and creating better breathability and weather protection at the same time. Formotion technology carries into the midsole and combines with full forefoot Adiprene + foam cushioning for forefoot propulsion and efficiency. A hinged heel design with a lugged, grippy Continental rubber outsole offers shock absorption during heel strike and aids in balance and traction.

A molded OrthoLite sockliner enhances fit and comfort and helps to keep your foot cool. The over-the-ankle cut of the Men’s Terrex Fast R Mid GTX uses synthetic construction to enhance comfort whle providing stability. A lightweight speed-lacing system allows you to dial in fit and stays secure even while you’re on the move.

Likes: Synthetic upper gives some breathability. The Continental sole
rubber compound has the best stickiness on wet rock that I've found - same as Vibram Idro-grip and slightly stickier on compacted snow and ice, though both are slippery on ice. The fit of the boot is good - not as good as some Italian boots, but comfortable. Soles are very stiff and finish of seams isn't as smooth as some brands, so be careful before doing long hike.

I have been on a mission to find soles that stick on wet rock well and very few do - only these two rubber compounds so far. I hope Adidas knows what they have here and doesn't stop using this type of sole.

Dislikes: I had to return the first pair because the right boot slipped even after bending the sole to make it more flexible and hiking for about 20 hours up and down hills. The right boot looked like the construction was a little crooked. The second pair work just fine.

Likes: Very lightweight for a mid boot, great traction, great fit for my mid volume foot with medium arch. I wouldn't backpack in these, but for day hikes with my son on rocky or loose trails they are great, exactly what I was looking for for those trails that justify more support than hiking shoes provide.

Dislikes: Takes a few times to get the technique down to get the ankles cinched up enough with the speedlace, but once I got it I have no issues.
